young people partner dancing

“THE AMERICANIZATION OF QUINCEAÑERAS: OUT OF SYNC.” It’s not that any of the kids ranging in age 4-17 wanted to learn to dance — it’s that they’ve been asked to dance again and again until they get it just right by Lisandra Almendia’s mother. Every couple seems disinterested, but they are more distracted by repetition than boredom. The five couples have spent months preparing for Lisandra’s (center with her escort, Raul Robles) upcoming Quinceañeras. Lisandra’s mother was certain the practice would pay off. This image won 1st place for feature picture in the 2002 Pictures of the Year International (POYi) competition.
