Steve Buckheit has been an adjunct lecturer in the journalism department since 2010.
He is currently a feature producer for ESPN’s various linear and digital platforms, producing content for ESPN brands including SportsCenter, NFL Countdown, College GameDay, and Outside the Lines, serving domestic and international audiences.
His features have highlighted events including the World Series, Masters, Super Bowl, Breeder’s Cup, NASCAR, NBA Finals, NCAA Basketball Tournament, College Football National Championship, the National Spelling Bee and even Dancing With The Stars. Assignments have taken him to hallowed sporting venues, the White House, and a Navy aircraft carrier at sea.
Hired as a production assistant at ESPN, Steve transitioned to documentary-style producing for the Emmy Award-winning ABC/ESPN television series: SportsCentury. He later was a studio highlight supervisor at the Bristol, Connecticut-based headquarters of ESPN.
As a feature producer, he won a Sports Emmy Award in 2019 (Outstanding Sports News/Feature anthology “SC Featured,”) and 2021 (Outstanding Studio Show Daily “SportsCenter”).
Steve wrote for the Daily Campus, broadcast games on WHUS Radio, was a statistician for the Athletic Communications department, and public address announcer for on-campus women’s basketball, soccer, and baseball games while he was a journalism major at UConn.
Steve also completed internships at WVIT-TV (NBC), the Meriden Record-Journal, and ESPN’s communications department
