Prior to his appointment as Assistant Professor-in-Residence at the University of Connecticut, Rick Hancock was Assistant Dean in the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT.
Previous to his academic career, Hancock served with distinction as a News Anchor and Chief Political Reporter at WTIC-TV, Fox 61 News in Connecticut for nearly a decade. In addition, he also hosted the popular weekly public affairs program "Beyond The Headlines."
Career highlights include: Team Emmy awards and personal Emmy and Associated Press nominations. Hancock was the lead reporter who covered the Vice Presidential and Presidential campaigns of Senator Joseph Lieberman and the corruption scandal that led to the resignation and guilty plea of former Connecticut Governor John Rowland. In addition, Rick produced for Fox 61 and Fox 61.com provocative and popular truth checks of political advertisements; and in 2003, became the first Connecticut broadcaster to launch a blog. He currently serves as the station’s Internet and Technology Reporter and hosts the popular “Rick’s RSS” segment that features what’s “hot and happening,” on the Internet.
Additionally, Hancock has been hired by a number of media companies and professional organizations as a consultant and content producer for multimedia websites and interactive media strategies. A few of those organizations include The Tribune Company, The Journal Register Company and the interactive division of Black Entertainment Television.
Hancock has served on the board of directors for the local affiliates of the YMCA and the National Conference for Community Justice. He has also co-hosted the local portion of the annual National Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Telethon.
Rick Hancock earned a Masters of Science degree in e/Media and Interactive Communications from Quinnipiac University, Hamden, CT. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. And, in 2003, following a competitive application process, he was one of 13 journalists selected as an academic Fellow by the Western Knight Center for Specialized Journalism. This Fellowship offered an intense hands-on multimedia training experience and served as a catalyst for his current educational and professional pursuits. |
